MORE BYUnknown

Zahhāk was a tyrannical king of Iran who, according to legend, killed Jamshīd and seized the throne of Jamshīd. Zahhāk translates to laughing or smiling. It is said that at the time of his birth, Zahhāk had two fangs, hence the name Zahhāk.

Due to kissing the devil, two serpents grew on his shoulders, which nēded to be fed two human brains every day. If the snakes were not fed, they would bite Zahhāk. If the serpents were cut off, they would grow back. In desperation, when no one else was available, Zahhāk would resort to licking the wounds on his own shoulders.
