maz.har-e-ḳhud ḳhud shudī va ḳhud ba-iz.hār aamdī
Your radiance is manifest in every form and every image;
You are at once your own manifestation and your own expression.
gaah dar ḳhvāb-e-zuleḳhā dam ze-ishq-e-ḳhud zadī
gaah chuuñ yūsuf ba-ḳhūbī garm-e-bāzār aamdī
At times you breathe the spirit of love into Zuleikha’s dream,
And at times you appear in the marketplace in the form of (Prophet) Joseph.
ham-chū zāhid subha-e-sad-dāna ba-giriftī ba-kaf
gaah ham-chūñ barahman pechīda zunnār aamdī
At times, like an ascetic, you hold in your hand a rosary of a hundred beads;
At times, like a Brahmin, you bind the sacred thread upon your neck.
gah anal-haq guftī va gaahe hual-haq gufta-ī
ḳhud shudī mansūr va raqsāñ bar-sar-e-dār aamdī
At times you proclaim Ana al-Haq (“I am the Truth”), at times you cry Huwa al-Haq (“He is the Truth”);
And at times, as Mansur, you are seen dancing upon the gallows.
az pai-e-dil burdan-e-miskīñ 'hasan' az shahr-e-quds
dar harīm-e-kun-fakāñ poshīda ruḳhsār aamdī
And at times, to captivate the heart of poor Hasan,
You reveal your veiled cheek within the sanctuary of Kun fa-yakūn (“Be, and it is”).
